Alix Slater, Museum, Heritage and Arts Sector Consultant
I have provided consultancy services to the heritage, museum and arts sectors for more than 20 years. Working both independently and with a small network of consultants, I provide a personalised service on both small and multi-million pound projects.
I have more than 20 years’ consultancy experience working with a range of organisations including small volunteer run trusts, local authorities, private clients, ecclesiastic organisations and national bodies. Since I formed Alix Slater Consultancy & Training Ltd. in 2010 I have built up a client list with whom I have worked to secure more than £25 million in funding.
Prior to this, I worked in the Marketing Department at National Museums Wales and with the interpretation team at the Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto. I have also had a successful academic career and I am widely published on visitor motivations, museum and arts marketing and friends and membership schemes and have been a regular speaker at conferences and contributor to publications.
I also regularly work with a small team of consultants who provide complimentary services and additional capacity on larger projects.
I work most regularly with Cultural Consulting Network (CCN), a network of consultants who provide support in areas such as business planning and consultation.
Recent projects the two consultancies have collaborated on include Round 2 HLF applications for God’s House Tower in Southampton, the Royal College of Music Museum, and ‘Discovering the Bishop of London’s Palace’, at Fulham Palace.
When projects require bespoke advice on retailing, I normally work with Alison Guilfoyle.
Alison is an experienced retail specialist working exclusively in the art, heritage, museum and tourism sectors. She delivers practical bespoke retail solutions for a range of clients, from small independent museums to international brands.
Recent projects include a project with the South West Museum Federation and Oldham Heritage & Arts Centre.
