University of Greenwich Winter Garden
Client: University of Greenwich
Dates: 2012
Budget: n/a
Project: Winter Garden
Opened in 1890 the Winter Garden in south east London is the second biggest glass house in the UK, after the Temperate House at Kew. It was built by Colonel North and since 1906 had been part of Avery Hill College, a teacher training college and then the University of Greenwich.
I was invited by the University to review and support them with their Round 1 HLF application for the £2.9m restoration of the Winter Garden. Specifically, I reviewed their visitor figures and plans for volunteering, learning and heritage skills training and budgets to ensure that their plans were achievable and they had budgeted accurately.
The project was successful and received a development grant of £192,000.
