Project: Learning Strategy & Implementation Plan for Emirates Aviation Attraction

Situated on the North Greenwich Peninsula, adjacent to the Emirates Cable Car, the Emirates Aviation attraction explores the science of modern aviation and airport operations. The vision for the attraction is to provide a “fun, yet educational overview of just what it takes to successfully get a 560 tonne aircraft off the ground and 40,000 feet into the sky” (Tim Clark, President of Emirates Airline).

I was commissioned to undertake a demand analysis of the potential educational market and develop a cross curricula programme linked to the national curricula at KS3, KS4 and KS5 to fulfil Emirate’s aspiration to develop a formal education programme to complement the interactive exhibits.

Although the original focus was on delivering science orientated programmes to schools in Greenwich and Newham, I recognised the potential to develop programmes for colleges and universities from across London where there is unmet demand. We identified a large potential market within a one-hour travel time to the site and broader curricula links, spanning engineering, geography, travel and tourism, business studies, ICT and design & technology as well as work based learning opportunities.

We also assisted the newly appointed Education Officer with the development and piloting of sessions for the launch of the programme.
